Student Awards

Libro’s student award program supports youth who demonstrate outstanding commitment to their community while balancing academic success.

Applications are now open until May 8, 2026!

Recognizing students who make a difference while pursuing their goals.  

33 students (ages 17–25) will be selected to receive: 

  • A $2,000 scholarship 
  • A no fee Go Free chequing account  
  • A financial coaching session to get set up for success

Application Details

  • The program is open to Libro Credit Union members and nonmembers. 
  • Applicants must be between 17 and 25 years of age at the time of application. 
  • A minimum academic average of C+ (67%) is required. 
  • Applicants must be enrolled fulltime for September 2026 in a Canadian college, university, apprenticeship program, technical institute, or private college. 
  • Nonmembers must have a primary home address in southwestern Ontario (postal code beginning with “N”). 
  • Libro staff, Board members, and immediate family members living in the same household are not eligible. 
  • Past recipients of the Libro Credit Union Student Awards are not eligible in 2026. 

You will be asked to provide the following information:

  • Current academic average.
  • Number of hours volunteered in your community during 2025.
  • List the organizations that you volunteered with in 2025 and describe your involvement with each one
  • Describe how you are helping to make your community better while balancing academic success.
  • You can choose between writing an essay (Maximum 3,500 characters) or creating a short video. If submitting a video:
    • It should be maximum 2 minutes long
    • Accepted file types are mp4 or mov
    • Maximum file size is 300MB
    • Videos recorded using a mobile phone are acceptable. Please use horizontal format.
    • Additional tips: Place the phone on a stable platform or use a tripod for filming. Test the sound quality and be aware of ambient sound. Be yourself, ensure you are comfortable. You don’t need to be overly formal in your presentation.
  • Application Opens: April 13, 2026   
  • Application Closes: May 8, 2026  
  • Decision Announcement: Beginning June 4 
  • Scholarship Disbursement: Last week of August
