Libro Credit Union partners to bring credit union-led financial literacy to southwestern Ontario
LONDON, ON - Libro Credit Union (Libro) has joined Canadian credit unions across the country as they mark Financial Literacy Month by celebrating the national launch of an award-winning financial literacy program: Each One, Teach One.
The program, originally created by Vancity credit union in 2008, has expanded to include 60 Canadian Credit Union Association-affiliated credit unions across the country, with more than 100 credit union employees certified to deliver financial literacy workshops in their own communities. Libro is proud to be one of these credit unions now certified to offer these workshops.
The Each One, Teach One program is delivered by credit union staff who volunteer to cover key topics, including basic banking, budgeting, taxation, developing a credit history, loans, credit card knowledge, fraud prevention and more.
"Financial literacy is one of the first steps on the road to economic strength and independence," said Linda Morris, Vancity's Senior Vice-President of Member Community Engagement. "We created this program to provide members of our community with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to make informed financial decisions. We are excited that so many other Canadian credit unions are able to bring this knowledge and information to members of their own communities."
To celebrate Financial Literacy Month, Libro is training a team of 16 staff who will become certified Each One, Teach One trainers and will deliver the financial literacy workshops on a volunteer basis.

"Financial literacy is a key focus area in our community investment program and this is a tremendous opportunity for staff to share their knowledge, financial expertise and passion across the communities we serve. Libro staff have always been highly engaged as caring volunteers and the interest in this program has been incredible."
