I love summer! There’s just so much to do. I think my parents miss me during the summer because I spend as much time as I can outside. I love to ride my bike, hike with my parents, swim, and of course play sports. What do you love about summer? One thing I really love about summer is star gazing. My parents lay out a blanket in our backyard and sometimes we’ll lay outside for hours staring up at outer space. It was during one of these nights that I decided I want to fly a spaceship to Jupiter one day. Here are some facts about space that I hope you will find interesting: - Earth is just one of eight planets in our solar system. There’s also Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
- A solar system is made up of planets which orbit a sun. Solar systems are also made up of moons, comets, asteroids, minor planets, dust and gas.
- The stars we see in the sky are other suns and planets. Our solar system is just one of millions in the sky.
- Earth is the third planet from the sun. Mercury is closest, followed by Venus.
- Earth’s moon is called Luna. It is 384,400 km from Earth. It is made up of mountains, valley, and craters and you can see it without a telescope or binoculars.
